Painting Fundamentals a series with Artist Michael Leaver

Learn the fundamentals of the Alla Prima oil painting method with Michael Leaver, specializing in impressionistic realism and known for their narrative portraits.

In this 6 week oil painting course, you will learn and put to practice the 7 elements of compelling artwork, such as composition, color theory and texture, as well as the fundamentals of brushwork, color mixing, value matching and finishing and caring for a completed oil painting, and much more.

All skill levels are welcome.  

All materials are provided (including a starter kit with paint and brushes) but also bring your favorite colors, brushes and tools if you prefer.

$550 tuition for the 6-week course

Complimentary scheduled independent studio time is included and available at ARTWRKD for further exploration of techniques learned in the workshop.

Artist & Workshop Leader Michael Leaver is a regionally known and collected artist committed to pushing the limits of contemporary realist oil painting. Their work explores human subjects, often lost in thought, discussion or private activity.  Delight, wonder and reflection are common themes in their pieces, executed with technique that focuses on the capture of the physical form and the contrast of light and color.
