Workshops run on 3 Saturday Afternoons

The cost for the 3 session workshop is $240.00

This 3 session workshop culminates with the creation of your own unique upcycled garment -which will

save 1.5 lbs of fabric from the landfill!

Step 1- Take the time to shop in your closet (or a friends closet) or thrift stores

You will need at least 8 men’s dress shirts or large size women’s tops or men’s pants or a combination of

all of them. Tableclothes, sheets and or pillowcases, etc. any item that will yield large

pieces (at least 12”- 22”square) of fabric to create your unique upcycled creation.

When choosing items for your creation its best to have a common or similar color theme or fabric

texture (flannel , corduroy, wool, velvet) or print in order for your piece to have a cohesive look

OR- a mixture of mismatched, eclectic pieces as long as it is intentional.

There will be an opportunity to swap with other participants.

Think about incorporating special pieces into your new creation, something from a loved one...a fabric item that is sentimantal to you...

Session 1

- Learn how fast Fashion is creating pollution with an overflow of unsold and unused garments

- How you can dress responsibly-with intention

- Review and swap fabrics you have collected for your garment

- Start to deconstruct garments

Session 2

- Layout and Cut fabric patterns

- Pin pieces together in the final combination

- Learn the technique - shir/ gather- Sew pieces together

Session 3

- Finish sewing, hemming

- Embellishments

- Collect left over clothes for recycling and discuss other projects for “scraps”

- Model your outfit for photography

Machine sewing experience is helpful but not necessary

Suggested equipment if you would like to have your own "kit"- Scissors, straight pins, spool of thread that matches your fabrics, tailors chalk or fabric marking pencils. These items will be provided so do not worry if you don't have them.
